The problem: The computer starts up, but doesn't get anything up to the monitor. A short list of things it does:
- USB mouse lights up
- keyboard's locks (Num Lock, et al) light up at first, but go off and don't do anything when you hit them after that
- CD drives light up, as if being scanned
- fans are all running
- Windows isn't loading. At least, there's no Startup ding over the speakers at any point
The story: there was a lot of frame dropping when playing videos on Hulu and Youtube, so I tried to put better memory in it. Failed to check what kind of memory the motherboard takes, and ended up throwing DDR2 in, when its standard is DDR400.
With that DDR2 memory in, the computer turned on, then very quickly turned back off, and I started to smell something.
I reinstalled the old memory, and now I've got this problem on my hands. Thinking I can get a couple capacitors from Radio Shack and solder them in.keyboard with mouse integrated
